Job Title: Flat Roofer
Reports to: Team Leader
Department: Production

Job Summary:

Flat Roofer Work is performed on various flat elevations, and fall protection systems are installed prior to work beginning and utilized constantly throughout the day. Scope of work includes installation of various flat roofing products, skylights, and flashings.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review and comply with job site safety rules and project safety plans
  • Utilize hot work permits, and practice fire safety
  • Study installation instructions from various product manufacturers
  • Install property protection below roof lines to deflect and catch falling debris
  • Set up fall protection systems and scaffolding to provide safe access to roofs
  • Remove and dispose of old roofing systems
  • Complete roof decking/minor structural repairs, and install plywood sheathing
  • Install peel and stick vapor barriers, insulation, and cover boards
  • Install a variety of flat roofing systems including SBS, TPO, Vinyl, and EPDM products as per manufacturer specifications
  • Install drains, vents, and skylights

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Special understanding of torch safety
  • Knowledge of roofing construction and various flat roofing system applications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluent in the English language
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions
  • Considerable knowledge of fall protection systems, and WorksafeBC regulations
  • Proficient in the use of company intranet and project management tools including Buildertrend
  • Good mathematical, reading, and time management skills
  • Ability to work at heights on a flat or sloped roof

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of roofing experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Flat roofing tools
  • Fall protection kit
  • Can lift >22kg (>50 lbs)

Certifications:

The following are great to have, but not all are required at the time of employment. Further training and certification can be achieved while employed.

  • Fall Protection
  • National Torch Safety
  • Soprema’s Program Alliance for Quality + Safety (PAQ+S)
  • (Optional) RCABC/Red Seal – Damp and Waterproof

Work Environment:

Working from heights in inclement weather conditions as well as high temperatures. Although sites are kept safe, you must be diligent and keep a strong focus on your surroundings at all times. Typical weather conditions can include extremely hot or extremely cold temperatures and you must be able to wear clothing accordingly as well as wear proper safety gear at all times.
